LIFESPAN: an infographic on the timespans of our coveted digital media storages.
This piece is a double-sided infographic that focuses on exploring the various lifespans of different video media-storage units. I knew for this piece, I wanted to emulate two separate types of aesthetics - 80-90s VHS style covers and futuristic glitch effects. The VHS style is a reference on the nostalgia factor of these older mediums, and the glitch was my way of showing a type of systematic error of a machine exceeding its lifespan.
I messed around with multiple iterations of how I wanted to present this concept, whether it would be more abstract with geometric shapes, messing around with iconography, or more literal with pictures of tape reels and CD parts.
Narrowing down my ideas further, I decided with going for a more grid-like format for the information display coupled with recognizable iconography of the storage device.
As I developed my ideas further, I played around with the type of methods to showcase data, while also narrowing down the staples of which of the video storage mediums were the most iconic. I wanted to go for a more vintage, almost rustic look. I also figured that using some type of wrinkled + grainy texture for the poster would be a good fit thematically as a way to loosely represent the outside of a dusty old VHS tape case.
